Abstract
During the period of January to November of 1978, the discography was, performed at the third, fourth, and fifth lumbar disc levels (total 25 discs) in. 1.0. patients for whom a discectomy was planned and a comparative study was., made between the results of the discography and myelography. The followings were, the results.
1.Accurate levels of the disc herniation could be found. in four patients of whom myelography was false negative in three and false positive in one.
2.False, negative discography was present in one patient where the myelography was positive.
3.Unsuspected disc degeneration was demonstrated in three patients at four disc levels.
4. Reproduction of pain by injecting.with 3 to 4 x2 of 50% Hypaque solution was foupd in herniated and degenerated discs.
5. Although discography is a somewhat controversiall and not universally accepted,; diagnostic test, the results of this study seems to show that discography has increased the accuracy of diagnosis and knowledge. of the extent of underlyipg disease than myelography.
